Champion Filly Echo Zulu euthanized

Echo Zulu, the remarkable champion, met a tragic end following a stall accident, leading to her euthanasia. Despite showing resilience after fracturing her sesamoid in a workout, she suffered a fatal leg injury while attempting to rise from being cast in her stall.

Recovering at Chino Valley Equine Hospital in California, Echo Zulu, daughter of Gun Runner and Letgomyecho, amassed an impressive 11: 9-1-0 record and over $2.6 million in earnings throughout her career under the guidance of trainer Steve Asmussen.

Crowned champion juvenile filly of 2021, her notable victories included the Spinaway (G1), Frizette (G1), and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Despite a setback in the 2022 Kentucky Oaks (G1), where she finished fourth, Echo Zulu's prowess shone in sprint distances, culminating in wins like the Dogwood (G3) and the Honorable Miss (G2). Her illustrious career ended abruptly while preparing for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, leaving behind a legacy of excellence on the racetrack.
