The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg on Friday 27 November 2009, Trainer Paul Matchett (pictured) was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.19 in that, as the responsible person for the horse EVERWOOD, he committed a dishonest practice in relation to racing by altering the Veterinary Register regarding African Horse Sickness for the horse EVERWOOD.
Mr Matchett pleaded guilty to the charge.
The Inquiry Board found Mr Matchett guilty and imposed a fine of R25 000.00.
Mr Matchett has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
Inquiry – Jockey S’manga Khumalo
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg on 25 November 2009, Jockey S’manga Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 77 read in conjunction with Rule 77.1.2, in that he failed to present himself for the taking of a breathalyser test and urine sample for analysis when instructed to do so at the Turffontein Racecourse on 10 October 2009.
Mr Khumalo pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Inquiry Board found Mr Khumalo guilty and imposed a suspension from riding in races for a period of one month, of which two weeks are wholly suspended for a period of six months.
Mr Khumalo has the right of appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
