It hasn’t taken globetrotting Fransie Herholdt long to get his feet under the table since taking up a riding contract in South Korea.
The highly experienced lightweight had already scored three seconds, and got off the mark at the 19th attempt in Race 4 today at Busan.
Jeonsaui Jilju was the horse’s name – not one that rolls off the western tongue.
Herholdt went off favourite in the 1300m event, and entered the 500m straight third a couple off lengths off them. He had to work hard all the way up the stretch before getting the upper hand late to win by a length.
Fittingly the victory was for former KZN based trainer Bart Rice, who played a part in getting Fransie to the east, and has been his main supporter in the training ranks so far.
It didn’t take long for number 2 to arrive either as Herholdt guided Queen Of Captain to victory in race 7, completing a nice double on the day.
