Weir Names will be Forgotten Soon

Wayne Hawkes has joined a host of Victorian trainers saying the 'show will go on' and the state's racing industry will move on quickly from the recent Darren Weir and Jarrod McLean saga.

Speaking on Racing.com's After The Last program on Monday night, Hawkes said that no trainer is bigger than the industry, even those at the very top.

“The bottom line is nobody talks about Bart Cummings, nobody talks about Guy Walter, nobody talks about Peter Hayes," he said.

“These are household names, D.K Weir’s name will be forgotten pretty quick, because that’s what happens in the industry.

“The first race will be run and won on time tomorrow.

“The show goes on, that has nothing to do with Darren but this industry doesn’t stop, it’s just a big wheel and it just keeps turning and this will have very little impact," Hawkes said.

The leading trainer said it will be a tough task for the Weir horses that have moved stables to be able to perform in the immediate future.

“To be having runners this Saturday is going to be a hell of a job, because they’re going to be coming from a different regime," he said.

“You’re not going to be given much, because you’re not going to be ringing Darren and saying hi how you’re going, can you give me a heads up on the horse so you’re doing it on the fly, you’re doing it on the run.

“There’s horses that are going to run this weekend that we’re going to be punting on, and racing against that you’ve won’t even know how they’ve settled in and what they’ve done.
