Oh Susanna will attempt to achieve a feat her stable companion, Snowdance, failed to do last year, and that is to win the R1-million Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes.

This Grade 1 race over 1600m will be run on the same card as the Vodacom Durban July on Saturday 6 July at Greyville.

Last year Snowdance was viewed by many as the best banker on the card but after leading nearly all the way up the straight, she was snared on the line by Sean Tarry-trained Redberry Lane.

This year Justin Snaith will rely on Oh Susanna to carry the stable to victory.

While Snaith did warn punters Snowdance was not at her best on the Greyville layout, that is not true of Oh Susanna who has raced there twice for two wins. This is run at weight-for-age terms so she will be the best handicapped runner.

She led all the way two weeks ago to win the Grade 2 Tibouchina Stakes over 1400m, a distance which is short of her best, and already bookmakers are taking no chances with last year’s Sun Met winner, pricing her up at 13-10 to notch up her fifth Grade 1 victory.

The good news for the stable is that she is beautifully drawn in barrier No 4 and can only improve when the final field is announced on Tuesday.

Snowdance is nominated to have another crack at this race but she has drawn wide at No 19 and the connections will have to decide as to whether to run her or not.

Front And Centre will represent the younger set and she is second favourite at 9-2. Unfortunately, Brett Crawford’s charge has also drawn wide at No 14 and that will not make things easy for her.

KRA Fillies Guineas winner Santa Clara has the advantage of having won over this course and distance but she, too, has landed a wide draw at No 11. Candice Bass-Robinson will be hoping for a couple of scratchings when the final field is declared.

There is a supplementary stage on Monday but the final field will be announced on Tuesday.

Early Betting: 13-10 Oh Susanna; 9-2 Front And Centre; 7-1 Snowdance, Santa Clara; 17-2 Fresnaye; 15-1 Celtic Sea, 22-1 and upwards others
