Run Fox Run is Back!

The below par effort of Run Fox Run when 4th in the Gr. 1 Cape Flying Championships was firmly put to bed in today's strong Pinnacle Plate over 1000m at Kenilworth, the day racing returned to the Cape during level 3 lockdown for Covid-19.

She firmly put away the boys and one other filly in a classy display kicking at the right time when asked for a go. It was a minor squeeze by jockey Greg Cheyne as she accelerated rapidly to run away with the contest by half a length, but an easy half.

The contest looked more of a Grade 1 event than a Pinnacle and was by far the best race of the day. The top contenders didn't really fire besides the star filly of course and it was the lightly weighted Fabian who ran impressively attempting to catch the flying Australian bred. Brett Crawford got her spot on for the contest and there looks plenty in the tank for the next sprint, by all accounts, the SA Fillies Sprint at Scottsville. Crawford mentioned this as her target. Whilst Greg Cheyne waxed lyrical about her claiming she was as good a filly as he has ridden.

The Bass-Robinson quartet took the minor placings in a fine effort from that stable with the stable star ironically running the worst of the 4 finishing 5th. But, my word, what a run that was. Most likely the run of the race was from her, the classy Clouds Unfold. Barely touched, she steamed home on the outside over a distance short of her best in a hands and heels ride, the jockey looked like he was riding her for a casual workout. She looks a big contender for a possible tilt at the Gold Challenge and Garden Province if she goes that way.

Another take out, was the poor display from some of the proven stars like Pacific Trader and Bold Respect but they may have needed it more than the others so the next start will be a better judge of their true abilities.
