Five star Sydney jockeys have been given the green light to travel to Victoria for key Spring Carnival races.

Jockeys seeking permission to come to Victoria included James McDonald, Hugh Bowman, Kerrin McEvoy, Glen Boss and Rachel King, with the first day competing for most of the four to be the Cox Plate.

Racing.com understands McDonald, Bowman and Boss were given permission to travel on Thursday, while McEvoy and King were approved to ride during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The trio of jockeys will travel from Sydney on Sunday and once their six days quarantine is complete, can compete on Cox Plate Day on October 23.

Each jockey that travels will need to test negative within 48 hours of receiving their documentation to travel and then isolate for six days. They then must return another negative test before they are allowed leave isolation.

It’s believed Racing Victoria approved their involvement but ultimately it was a State Government decision.

McDonald will pick up the coveted ride on Zaaki for the Cox Plate ($3 Sportsbet), while Boss is set to ride last year’s winner Sir Dragonet. Bowman will ride Mo’unga in the Cox Plate should the horse travel south.

McEvoy will attempt come down later than the other three and ride Grand Promenade in the Melbourne Cup.

It's unsure how long each jockey will remain in Melbourne.
