Freedman Brothers Split

Just days after scoring another group 1 success with their mare Forbidden Love, brothers Richard and Michael Freedman are to go their separate ways.

“After a number of successful years as a training partnership in Sydney, we have decided to dissolve the partnership and pursue individual training careers from April 1, 2022,” a joint release to owners read on Tuesday.

“The change to current operations will be minimal. Richard will continue to train from the stables at Rosehill while Michael will continue training from both the Randwick and Hawkesbury stables.”

In all, the Freedman brothers trained 146 winners between them, including three at group 1 level headlined by last year’ Golden Slipper Stakes champion Stay Inside, who has recently been retired to stand at Newgate Farm from next spring.

The pair came together as training partners in May, 2019 after Michael returned from overseas stints in Singapore and Hong Kong and Richard stepped away from media commitments.

Richard and Michael Freedman are the younger brothers of both Hall of Famer Lee, who is back training in Australia on the Gold Coast and of Anthony, who, in conjunction with his son Sam, is placed second in the Victorian trainer’s premiership and are recent group 1 winners themselves with Daumier saluting in the Blue Diamond Stakes.
