Rail Bias Proves Key in Jet Dark Win

The anticipated duel between Kommetdieding and Jet Dark materialised yet again in the WSB Cape Town Met but this time it was the Snaith trained runner who exacted revenge for last years Met defeat by taking the race ahead of his all time rival.

Jet Dark was once rated the 4th best horse in the world, albeit an early year ranking. He's certainly proven he is up there with the best in the land with another confirmation of that ability in this grand win.

Richard Fourie on Jet Dark rode a peach of a race pushing the colt out the stall initially to get a good slot and then keeping him free on the outside of runners throughout the race.

He was angling for that outside strip of the course in the straight that nearly everyone believes to be as even as the rest of the course, except for the jockeys themselves.

Fourie's move, culminating in the 0.2 length win, was the difference in the victory as Kommetdieding and Gavin Lerena sort a slightly wider move and hit the front in the straight only to be run down on the outside. It was a match up of note.

The entire field was compact, covered by just 8.5 lengths, the top 15 within 5.5 lengths. Just shows how closely the top horses in South Africa are matched. There is no real standout.

Snaith ran 3rd and 4th as well with two long shots, Pomp and Power and Nexus. The disappointment of the race was favourite Make It Snappy who finished 11th.
