The Championships will be inaugurated in 2023 as a series of races over a 3-month period to honour and recognise the best of the generation - an ode to Champions - The Championships - a 4RACING initiative.
The 2023 start will provide racegoers and stakeholders in South Africa an opportunity to be a part of a traditionally strong 3-month season now coming together to be known as purely 'The Championships'.
The 5 racedays are all Championship days starting with the massive Triple Crown and Triple Tiara series of races. This mile beginning starts off 'The 3 yo Championship' of events with the Triple Crown and Triple Tiara. This be the start of 'The Championships'.
The second day of 'The Championships' will consist of likely the nation's two foremost events for three-year-olds; the South African Classic and the South African Fillies Classic (both Gr.1).
The Triple series will conclude on day 3 at the South African Derby (Gr.1) and South African Oaks (Gr. 2). This series crowns the best three-year-olds in the land.
Day 3 also hosts the prestigious H.F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes (Gr.1) - The Mile Championship. This great mile event is regarded as a true test at historic Turffontein.
Ladies Day, day 4, will be held in honour of Princess Charlene who hosts the Empress Club Stakes, a Fillies Mile Championship event (Gr.1).
Day 5 is 'The Championships Finale'. It will be headlined by the Premier's Champions Challenge, The Middle-Distance Championship, a weight for age event.
'The Sprint Championship' is the quickest 1000m event in the land, this being the Computaform Sprint. It crowns the best sprinter. Both the Premier's Champion Stakes and Computaform Sprint are Grade 1 events. Two of the seven Grade 1 events allocated to this three month 'The Championships' season is held on this day.
Other events on this 'The Championships Finale' day include the S.A Nursery Gr.2 - The Juvenile Championship, the S.A Fillies Nursery Gr.2 - The Juvenile Fillies Championship, the Gerald Rosenberg Gr.2 - The Fillies Middle Distance Championship and the Camellia Stakes Gr.2, The Fillies and Mares Sprint Championship.
