For the first time in the history of the Dubai World, dating back to 1996, it will be hosted during the holy month of Ramadan. It's an abrieviated week of festivities due to the fast but a good one nonetheless.

The Dubai World Cup has always been a special week since the initial 1996 race won by the legendary American, Cigar.

Super sire and racehorse, Curlin, won on 2008 and Jerry Bailey took out the first two runnings as a jockey. California Chrome and Arrogate were others who won but the highlight must have been Dubai Millennium, named to target this race, who won in 2000.

However, in all the years, it has never been run during Ramadan. So it's another world first for the great race. At USD 12 million it ranks as one of the richest prizes in racing and the day itself brings together a prize fund in totality of just under 30 million US dollars.

But this year will be different with no planned concert for the holy month.

The Japanese will be out in full force again, maybe unlike any other time they have travelled. The fleet of horses from Japan is almost unprecedented. 24 total runners and 8 of 14 in the likely final Dubai World Cup field itself.
