Open Fillies Guineas ready to crown a champion

A few moons ago, Candice Bass Robinson sang praises for a crop of promising fillies under her wing. Fast forward, Beach Bomb and Red Palace have lived up to the hype, and now the spotlight is on their odds in the World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas, a Grade 1 showdown spanning 1600m.

Picture this: a mile race teeming with speed among the 14 contenders. Royals, Red Palace, Rascova, Japanese Rose, and the 3/1 ante-post favorite, Double Grand Slam, all flaunt a penchant for taking the lead or staying close.

Beach Bomb, drawn in a tricky 12th spot, faces a positional puzzle for jockey Aldo Domeyer. Yet, there's a chance she could carve out a midfield niche after a spirited early gallop. Her triumph in the Irridescence Stakes over 1500m hints that the daughter of Lancaster Bomber and Beach Beauty might savor the challenging 1600m. At tempting early odds of 8/1, she's a compelling each-way prospect.

Enter Red Palace, the stablemate who took her time to hit stride but clinched a Spring double at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. Her last victory was nothing short of impressive, dominating older rivals with a lead so commanding she could afford to freewheel through the 300m marker.

Double Grand Slam, snugly positioned on the inside alley, seems poised for a favorable race. The Vercingetorix filly, under the guidance of Justin Snaith, displayed versatility in running style, staying purposefully behind Rascova in the Western Cape Fillies Championships. The likelihood of a soft lead for the reopposing Rascova seems highly improbable.

Snaith, a maestro in G1 victories, has his eye on another. Meanwhile, Mike de Kock, last triumphing in 2014, throws Silver Sanctuary into the mix. While her brilliance to win is debated, her recent gritty win in the Summer Pudding Handicap cannot be overlooked.

Japanese Rose, a bit of an enigma, may be underrated despite recent promising displays. Brett Crawford, a Fillies Guineas winner, throws her into the mix.

Mrs Geriatrix, the champion juvenile, finds herself mentioned late in the game. Questions linger about her flop behind Rascova – aberration or genuine concern about maintaining superiority over now stronger peers?

In the mix, Distant Winter, drawing even worse at 14, adds to the Bass Robinson arsenal. Just be Lekker and Luna Halo sneak into wider trifectas and quartets, with Luna Halo facing a tough challenge against Rascova.

Summing it up: the potentially high-class Beach Bomb edges ahead, closely followed by Double Grand Slam and Red Palace. Silver Sanctuary stands as a reliable backup, the progressing Japanese Rose offers a tempting 20/1 shot, and the proven Mrs Geriatrix remains a sensible alternate in this hotly contested race.
