Beach Bomb Showed us what a loss Lancaster Bomber is to the breed

After the Cape Fillies Guineas winner, Beach Bomb, swept to lead in a final burst of energy, it reiterated the fact that Lancaster Bomber is a huge loss to the breeding ranks in South Africa but his legacy may live on in no small measure with this classy filly.

The Candice Bass Robinson trained daughter of Grade 1 star Beach Beauty ran to glory in a quick Fillies Guineas where the pace set up front proved deadly for some front running types. The overall front runner, Rascova, ran her heart out in an eventual 3rd after leading with good fractions up front which left the second placed favourite Double Grand Slam gasping for air in the finish, only to disappear from the scene in a tame 12 plus lengths behind.

This made the Rascova run very good in terms of the race dynamics which allowed horses like Beach Bomb and Silver Sanctuary (Silvano) to run on at the death. The runner up will get better with age and distance and is one for future races after raiding from Johannesburg for the Mike De Kock Team.

Both first and second runners are Drakenstein owned and bred and Beach Bomb moved her record to a smart 4 wins from 6 starts.

Beach Bomb really hit her stride from the 600m onwards and from the 400 to finish she was quickest in the field and ran on as the fastest in the event from the 300m onwards. Mrs Geriatrix ran on really well as well from a wide draw but flattened on the final 100m showing that the draw got her in the end. She was the stand out at a two year but the muddled Fillies 3 year old division has moved more competitive. She was parked at the back for a late run but marginally ran less than the winner in terms of a straight line. A good run in totality but not a winning one under any racing circumstance. Both ran just over a length a half more than Silver Sanctuary who had no excuses either.

Rix/Crawford's Secret Identity ran the furthest of anyone in the event, some 2.4 lengths further than the winner and beaten only 3.45 lengths. That's a great take out for this event and is one to watch next time out over the same distance.

Drakenstein Stud had a Southern Hemisphere Guineas double with Fillies as their part owned Snitzel filly won a Guineas in Caulfield, Australia. The expensive AU$ 400k Inglis Easter purchase Serasana won the AU$300k Gr2 Sandown Guineas at her first try over the Mile after missing the Fillies Guineas due to injury and was instead pointed to this event. She is trained by Robbie Griffiths and ex South African Mathew De Kock. Snitzel's have good form in the soft and thsinporved so again after the going was rated a soft 5.
