Algiers, last year's Dubai World Cup runner-up, won't be gracing the 2024 Dubai Carnival as he bids farewell to his racing career.
Joint trainer Simon Crisford shared the news, expressing, "Regrettably, Algiers isn't exhibiting the same enthusiasm in his workouts, leading us to the decision to retire him. He was a remarkably consistent horse, especially fond of Meydan. His brilliance shone in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Al Maktoum Challenge, culminating in a close second in the Dubai World Cup. As he embarks on a well-deserved retirement, heartfelt thanks go to his owners Sultan Ali and Hamdan bin Sultan Ali Alsabousi for their unwavering support."
Algiers exits the racing scene with an impressive record, securing victory in 7 out of 22 career starts, accumulating a substantial £2.5 million in prize money, and achieving a peak official rating of 120.
