Popular former trainer Darryl Hodgson, renowned for his victories in the Met and Queens Plate, passed away on Wednesday evening at the age of 74.
During his illustrious career, Hodgson trained notable champions such as I'm Taking It and Past Master, both winners of the Queens Plate and the Met, respectively. Additionally, he guided State Control to victory in the 1991 South African Guineas and oversaw the triumph of two Fillies Guineas winners. Among his notable achievements, Hodgson also trained Vesta, who secured three Group 1 victories and achieved impressive second-place finishes in both the colts Cape Guineas and the Cape Derby.
After dedicating 40 years to the sport, Hodgson transitioned to the role of racing manager for his employer, Hassen Adams, before retiring.
