Rodney Dunn, a Racing Man like few others

Racing in the Western Cape mourns the loss of Rodney Dunn, a stalwart figure in both administration and ownership/breeding, who peacefully passed away at 76 after battling illness.

Dunn, a fixture in Cape Town, embodied the essence of racing administration - style and grace with his own touch of finesse. His dedication to the sport extended beyond the track, making him a man for any occasion and the figure everyone went to for Western Cape Racing.

Throughout his tenure, Dunn held various roles, including serving on the board of the now-defunct Western Province Owners and Trainers Association for over three decades. His efforts were instrumental in attracting owners from around the world; he was the face of Western Cape Racing.

The closure of the Western Province Owners and Trainers Association (WPOTA) in 2013 marked a significant transition for Kenilworth Racing, with Phumelela appointed as managers under the oversight of the National Horseracing Trust. In its wake, the Racing Association now assumes the role previously held by WPOTA, ensuring the continued stewardship of horseracing in the Western Cape. It's existed for 92 years.

An advocate for innovation and an enthusiast like no other in his time, Dunn spearheaded many initiatives. He first obtained his colours in 1985. He was famous for his determination and serious about getting the best for Cape Racing. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment and most imoortsncrlt passion for the sport.
