Winter Cloud - A Class Above

Winter Cloud has secured her third Grade 3 victory and surpassed the R1 million mark in earnings following her impressive win at the Champagne Stakes Gr3, covering 1200m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on April 20, 2024.

Winter Cloud, starting at 6/1 odds, showcased an impressive burst of speed, surging from near the back of the pack to clinch another black type victory.

With remarkable ease, she pulled away from the field without any urging from the jockey, ultimately crossing the finish line 1.25 lengths ahead of her stablemate, October Morn, who entered the race at 5-2 odds, favourite. Winter Cloud completed the race in a swift time of 71.38 seconds, solidifying her dominance on the track.

Jockey Anthony Andrews expressed confidence in her ongoing improvement, citing her ease during the race and hinting at her potential in the upcoming South African Fillies Sprint Gr1 at Scottsville. Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson praised the partnership between Andrews and Winter Cloud, highlighting her ability over the sprint trips and excellent acceleration. Winter Cloud's victory positions her as a strong contender for the Scottsville race, building on her past success at the course.

The winning connections, Drakenstein Stud, celebrated yet another Graded Stakes win at Kenilworth this year. Winter Cloud's pedigree, sired by What A Winter and out of Montelissima (IRE), reflects her impressive lineage. With a race record of 6 wins and earnings exceeding R1.1 million, Winter Cloud continues to establish herself as a formidable force in Fillies Sprint scene.
