Future Swing Claims 1900 but many disappoint

The Greyville 1900, a major pointer to the the Durban July played out at the city course. The race was packed full of July contenders and then winner gets an automatic place in the July with many going into to win the big race itself.

Justin Snaith is in fine form in KZN and after being recently in the headline for the wrong reasons, the Cape trainer came up trumps again on the 1900. Following his recent successes with Belgarion, seems poised for another triumph and the Fourie ridden Future Swing, winner of the 2023 Algoa Cup and 2024 Chairman’s Cup, was up to the task.

Future Swing clinched victory in the Listed Sledgehammer at Scottsville in mid-April. Despite initial doubts, Future Swing's impressive performance signaled a promising path towards the upcoming big race on July 6th.

Under Fourie's skillful handling, Future Swing (3/1) surged past Oriental Charm (12/1) in the final moments, crossing the finish line 0.30 lengths ahead in a time of 116.50 secs.

Master Redoute (12/1) trained by Andre Nel and Ponte Pietra (16/1) by Dean Kannemeyer also strengthened their Durban July aspirations, completing the quartet with respectable performances.

Future Swing, bred by Drakenstein, boasts an impressive pedigree as the offspring of former SA Horse of the Year, Futura, and Carousel Swing, a descendant of champion Trippi. He improved his record to 7 victories and 8 placings out of 17 starts, accumulating stakes of just under R1,120 million.

All fourteen contenders were Durban July entries, with first declarations closing soon, prompting owners to weigh their options as the main event approaches.
