Green With Envy and Frances Ethel headline Big Gr1 races

The upcoming races, the Gr1 Daily News 2000 and the Gr1 Woolavington 2000, are set to showcase some of the finest talent in horse racing.

Heading the lineup for the Gr1 Daily News 2000 is Green With Envy, recent victor of the Gr2 Kzn Guineas and a hot favorite for the R5 million Gr1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, this colt has displayed impressive form on his return from a rest. He clinched the Gr1 Cape Derby on his last Cape effort and then exhibited an impressive burst of speed to overtake Sandringham Summit in the Gr2 KZN Guineas, despite doubts about his suitability for the distance as well as his return from the rest.

Among the twelve nominations the caliber of competition Green With Envy will encounter at Greyville on Saturday, May 25 is clear to see. They represent the best in South Africa at this age level bar one missing contender, that being Purple Pitcher. His trainer, Robyn Klassen expressed doubts about running him this soon after the SA Derby, which he won and he will subsequently warm up for the July in Johannesburg in the Jubilee Handicap. Gr1 Cape Guineas winner Snow Pilot is expected to lead the pack of contenders trying to beat Green With Envy closely followed by Pure Predator and Oriental Charm, who recently secured second place in the Greyville 1900 against older opposition.

Meanwhile, in the Gr1 Woolavington 2000, open to older Fillies and Mares for only the second time in its history has seen Saartjie, trained by Andre Nel, dominant with a commanding victory in the Listed KRA East Coast Cup at her latest start.

Surging from the rear, she edged out Future Girl, trained by Brett Crawford, in the closing strides from a wide draw. Saartjie is one of the twelve nominations and also holds an entry in the prestigious Gr1 Durban July.

The three-year-old's are spearheaded by Frances Ethel, recent winner of the Gr2 SA Oaks. With an impressive record of four consecutive victories, including triumphs in The Oaks Trial and The Oaks, this filly, trained by Brett Crawford, has attracted the attention of Barry Irwin, renowned principal of Team Valor, who has invested in her potential, a testament to her promising future. He bought her during the week of the SA Oaks and his faith was instantly rewarded with her Oaks win. She is also the highest rated filly in the event.
