365 NEXT FOR RECORD BREAKING FOURIE

Richard Fourie broke Anthony Delpech's seemingly insurmountable record of 335 winners in a single season in South Africa in style at Greyville on Saturday. The likeable South African won two at Fairview on Friday only to win the other 3 needed for thr record on Saturday with an emphatic win onboard Double Grand Slam.

"I am just enjoying it," said Fourie. "They said it couldn't be broken," he added with determination. He hopes to reach this milestone by this weekend, thanks to what he calls "a good set of rides." The good set of rides turned out to be winning rides whilst now the am bition is to turn 335 into 365.

"The aim now is to get to 365 and set a lead that would be hard to break," said Fourie post his win on Saturday.

When asked about his mount for the July race, he remained non-committal, stating, "we need to see what happens this weekend first."

"My favorite was Legislate (Durban July winner), but the best horse I ever sat on was Ambitious Dragon in Hong Kong... Sjoe, was he good," he said. "In fact, I use him as a benchmark to judge other horses' abilities," Fourie added about the Hong Kong star who won the HK Derby, HK Gold Cup, HK Mile, and QE II Cup, and was a dual Horse of the Year.

"Dancer's Daughter was the best filly, with Captain's Ransom being very good as well. Also, Princess Calla was great."

He also highlighted Do It Again, saying, "I've been lucky to ride that many good ones."

Fourie’s next ambition is to ride in Japan. "I'd love to ride in Japan, the horses are so good," he said.

Although he has no specific plans to go overseas, a possible stint in Japan remains on his radar. This means South Africa’s best rider may continue to dominate locally for a while.

When asked about his unique riding style, which is compared to Jeff Lloyd's back arch style, he responded, "I ride my own style. Nobody can really compare to Jeff Lloyd; I feel comfortable like that."

Fourie has 8 rides at Fairview on Friday, 9 at Greyville on Saturday, and 6 at Turffontein on Sunday.

He excels in South Africa due to his command of pace—"pace is everything," according to Fourie—and his ability to position a horse in a race like few others.

Fourie is on a march to create a truly unbeatable record.
