Isivunguvungu made an impressive debut in the United States, clinching victory in the 1100m Da Hoss Stakes at Colonial Downs with a time of 62.58 seconds. The multiple Grade 1 winner, now under the care of trainer Graham Motion, used this race as a stepping stone towards the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, his next major target.
Despite an average start, Isivunguvungu quickly recovered, settling into third place behind the fast early pace. He made his move around the turn, taking advantage of an inside position from his number 2 draw, which became even more favorable after a few scratches in the field.
Though he showed signs of fatigue in the straight, Isivunguvungu dug deep to secure a narrow victory by a long head. Considering the travel and fitness challenges, his performance was highly commendable. He was sent off as the 18/10 favourite in the US and 2/1 with local bookmakers.
This victory marks a promising start for the former Muscutt trainee as he continues his journey in the US racing scene.
