Rubylot Leads Classic Series Charge with Sha Tin Victory

Rubylot delivered a stellar performance in the Class 2 Racing Club Cup Handicap (1400m) at Sha Tin on Sunday, bolstering his status as a prime contender for the HK$13 million Hong Kong Classic Mile on January 31. Under a confident ride by Brenton Avdulla, Rubylot surged late to claim victory by half a length over Young Champion. The win showcased his growing potential as he prepares for the Four-Year-Old Classic Series. Fellow contenders Johannes Brahms and Packing Hermod also displayed impressive form, finishing third and fourth, respectively, to enhance their Classic Series aspirations.

Trainer David Hayes expressed his excitement about Rubylot’s prospects, highlighting his readiness for longer distances. "He’s been crying out for a mile all season," Hayes remarked. "Brenton’s two rides for two wins on him show their strong connection. He’s a horse with quality and timing on his side." Rubylot’s performance, including a late burst and a professional demeanor, also marked Avdulla’s 50th Hong Kong win. Meanwhile, Dragon Joy and Embraces further strengthened their Classic Series credentials with commanding victories in their respective Class 3 contests, with Dragon Joy’s trainer Ricky Yiu optimistic about his horse's rising trajectory.

The day also saw standout performances from Zac Purton, who moved closer to Douglas Whyte’s record with a double, and trainers John Size and Chris So, who celebrated pivotal wins with Masterofmyuniverse and Mask Rider. Excellent Daddy and Dragon Four Seas added to the excitement, continuing the remarkable form of their respective stables. Hong Kong racing now shifts focus to Happy Valley on January 15, as the road to the Classic Series heats up.
