Racing Career

Before arriving in South Africa in early 1981, FOVEROS had raced in England and France, securing 3 wins. In South Africa, he raced in the colors of the JR Syndicate (nominee Mr. Jim Redman) and was trained by Herman Brown. With Basil Marcus as his regular jockey, FOVEROS won 5 major races:

  • 1981 Germiston November Handicap
  • 1981 Hawaii Stakes
  • 1982 Queen’s Plate
  • 1982 J&B Cape Met

Pedigree and Legacy

FOVEROS’s half-sister, AEGEAN BEAUTY (GB) (by SHARPEN UP), followed him to South Africa and won 3 races. His sire, AVEROF (GB), a descendant of HYPERION (GB), was a notable stallion in the UK and later stood at Broadlands Stud in South Africa from 1983 to 1992.

Stud Career

FOVEROS retired to stud in 1982, beginning at Zevenbergen Stud in the Cape and later relocating to Highdown Stud in Natal. Over 12 breeding seasons (1982–1994), he achieved unparalleled success, being named Champion Sire of South Africa 8 times and runner-up 3 times. He also excelled as a broodmare sire, with his daughters producing several successful stallions.
