South African-bred and trained Gimme A Prince and rising star One Stripe have both secured spots in the top 10 of the World's Best Racehorse Rankings.
One Stripe, the One World colt, earned his place after a dominant performance in the King’s Plate, a Breeders’ Cup "Win and You’re In" race. Following his final start in South Africa this Saturday, he will head overseas to compete internationally. The star colt was acquired by Hollywood Bets, with Rikesh Sewgoolam retaining a share for an undisclosed sum. He was ranked 10th, with a local rating of 132 and an international rating of 117.
Meanwhile, Gimme A Prince, fresh off an impressive Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship victory over 1000m, was rated 7th in the world, boasting a local rating of 134 and an international rating of 118. Notably, the gap between South African and international ratings appears to be widening, as previous years typically saw a difference of 12 to 13 points.
While early rankings often shift by year-end—especially at 118 and 117 levels—this recognition underscores the talent emerging from South African breeding, even if only temporarily.
