Journalism will remain in training, with his sights set on the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park on January 24.
Co-owner Don Alberto Corp. confirmed on X that the decision follows a meeting with Coolmore, which had announced in March that the Curlin colt would stand at its Ashford Stud upon retirement. According to the post, Journalism is expected to race “through the 2026 season.”
The agreement also outlines that purse earnings will be split evenly between Coolmore and the remaining ownership partners, underscoring a collaboration “built on history, vision, and excellence,” according to Don Alberto.
Trained by Michael McCarthy, Journalism was purchased as a yearling for $825,000 and has earned $4.3 million to date. The colt captured three Grade 1 races this year—the Santa Anita Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Haskell Stakes—while also finishing runner-up to Sovereignty in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes and to Fierceness in the Pacific Classic (G1). He most recently ran fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
