DANE JULIA WINS LISTED IN AUS, GROUP 1 NEXT

South African bred, NZ Group 1 and South African Group 1 winner, Dane Julia, will aim at an Australian Group 1 event after her smart Listed win in the Wiggle Quality at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Dane Julia ($16) put the writing on the wall with a strong first-up third in the Listed Triscay Stakes a fortnight ago and improved again to take out the Wiggle Quality (1400m) by a long neck over Bejewelled ($12) with Messenger ($26) a head away third.

"She has won a Group One in South Africa and New Zealand and we want to win one in Australia too," Freedman's racing manager Sam Pritchard-Gordon said.

"I'm not sure if she will do it but we'll give her the best shot at it."

Freedman put blinkers back on Dane Julia for the Wiggle and it worked like a charm as the mare positioning herself just behind the speed before finishing strongly to claim her second Australian stakes victory.

"The blinkers helped and Glyn (Schofield) rode her a treat," Pritchard-Gordon said.

Schofield positioned the six-year-old just behind the speed set by runner-up Bejewelled and when that mare came off the inside in the straight, Dane Julia pounced and went on to score a narrow victory on the slow track.

"It was a good win and a good addition of blinkers," Schofield said.

"It made her sharper and she travelled keenly in a good spot, maybe even too keenly.

"She really stuck to her task back on the inside and she's not really that good in rain-affected ground so, all in all, it was a good effort."

Race favourite Patronyme ($3) couldn't replicate her first-up win in the Triscay and finished last.
