The Oak Tree meeting will be held at Santa Anita this year after all. Speaking before the California Horse Racing Board Tuesday, MI Developments Chairman Frank Stronach stated repeatedly that MID, which owns and operates the Arcadia track, was no longer interested in having a "tenant in its house," seemingly ending any hope that his company would come to an agreement with the Oak Tree Association. But, in a sudden about-face, Stronach offered Oak Tree a one-year lease.
Five members of the Oak Tree Association in attendance at the meeting, including President Jack Robbins and Executive Vice President Sherwood Chillingworth, held an informal meeting, and accepted the one-year offer.
"Mr. Stronach has generously changed his mind, and allowed us to stay [at Santa Anita] for another year," Chillingworth said. "I think it's good for the industry and good for all of us."
