They say the key to brilliant race horses is longevity and versatility. Well it is hard to believe that a nearly 7 year old mare can still be improving, but River Jetez is certainly an exception and when most mares of her age have already experienced the gift of motherhood her racing career is just beginning to peak.
The brilliant mare made light work of her opposition in the 2000m Group 2 Gold Bracelet on Saturday taking her winning statistics to 11 career wins, which includes 19 places from her 33 starts. The mare has won 8 graded races including the J&B Met and has only finished out of the placings on 3 occasions.
Her prep for the Durban July has been brilliant and there is no doubting that she will be a massive runner at her current weight of 54 kg if all stays that way.
Mike has compared her to the likes of our brilliant filly Sun Classique and even Zenyatta he quipped, not quite, but we like to think of her as one of the very best mares to have ever raced from our yard, and she will have more to offer.
After her KZN season she will be joining Mike De Kock for a final crack at the big time in Dubai before being retired. She deserves to take on the very best and there is no doubting De Kock when it comes to delivering on the world stage...read more
