Durban July will add interest to already popular Emperors National Two-Year Old Sale

FOLLOWING last Saturday’s Vodacom Durban July there will undoubtedly be an even greater interest in the progeny of stallions Silvano and Dynasty, whose sons Bold Silvano and Irish Flame finished first and second in South Africa’s greatest race. Silvano (11 lots) and Dynasty (12 lots) are well represented at the 2010 Emperors Palace National Two-Year-Old Sale to be held over three days on Friday 13 (6pm), Saturday 14 (6pm) and Sunday 15 August (11am) at the TBA Sales Complex, Gosforth Park.

Add to that eight two-year-olds by second-season sire Black Minnaloushe, the sire of dual Graded winner Gold Onyx from a small first crop, and you have a solid foundation for this popular sale with a host of illustrious names among its graduates. Also fresh in the news is Champion Sprinter and multiple Grade 1 winner JJ The Jet Plane, a R70,000 purchase from the 2006 Sale whose sire Jet Master has eight lots catalogued. The grand mare River Jetez fetched R230,000 in 2005, but has banked R3,58 million for her owners since. Lizarre, one of the fancied runners in the July, fetched only R260,000 in 2008. Besides returning his purchase price and change from only 11 runs, he was sold to an Asian interest and will campaign in Dubai and Singapore next year. Cerise Cherry (R220 000), Dane Julia (R110 000) and Rock Opera (R80 000) are other South African graded winners who followed the export route, bagging dollars for their lucky owners. Offspring produced by the top class Captain Al and several up-and-coming stallions who have quietly made their mark in recent years can be found all over the 486-lot catalogue.

Colts and fillies by the likes of Announce, Casey Tibbs, Mogok, Parade Leader, Right Approach, Tiger Ridge, Toreador, VAR and Windrush will ensure an interesting variety and any number of value buys in a blossoming period for the South African thoroughbred breeding industry. Rock Of Gibraltar (IRE), sire of the South African trained Eagle Mountain and KRA Fillies Guineas Group 2 winner, Gibraltar Blue is represented by Lot 382. Holy Roman Emperor (USA), current leading European First Crop Sire has two lots catalogued (Lots 120 & 450). Along with Not For Sale (ARG) and Ad Valorem (USA), they add an international flavour to this year’s renewal.

Eamonn Cullen commented, “At the weekend Mike de Kock said the world is watching us and don’t need to stand back for anyone. There is a huge opportunity at this sale, group one winners have been purchased here in previous years and there is great value on offer.”
