There are five races on the card from Singapore on Sunday and while some of the best Poly sprinters will no doubt get plenty of attention in races 8 and 10, a couple of promising 3YO colts might dominate the headlines on Monday.
The two in question – ARROW TO POST (race 7) and CONTINENTAL FLYER (race 11) – have shown plenty in their brief careers and both are likely to start favourites today.
ARROW TO POST, an American-bred colt, showed more than enough on debut with excuses to think he has a bright future and connections looked to have found a very winnable race at start number two.
In fact nothing looks close to the POLITICAL FORCE 3YO on paper and while he is up against the first of the Southern Hemisphere 2YO’s crop, he should win and perhaps win easily.
CONTINENTAL FLYER doesn’t look to have it as easy in the lucky last but given he backed up his excellent maiden win with a eye-catching run with plenty of excuses in OK company last time-out, he is the one to beat.
The TESTA ROSSA colt looks like he will improve with race experience as well, suggesting he more than handles Class 4 and goes on to bigger and better things with a race like the Singapore Guineas in May on his agenda.
It is a mixed surface meeting with race 7, 8, and 10 on the all-weather Polytrack and races 9 and 11 on the Long Course (E), Turf.
Best Bets; ARROW TO POST (race 7 win), CONTINENTAL FLYER (race 11, win) and MR TIMELY (race 10, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) race 9 (field), race 10 (2, 3, 4, 5 and 7) race 11 (1 and 4).

RACE 7: PERTH YEARLING STAKES RESTRICTED MAIDEN (2&3YO) (WFA) - 1000M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 15:55 PRIZE MONEY: S$65000 + S$25000 BONUS TO WINNING QUALIFIED HORSES
Larry says, "It is almost impossible to see anything bar ARROW TO POST winning this. The American-bred 3YO Colt looked super on debut going down narrowly to what looks like a nice type in DRAGON SPIRIT and certainly hard to beat on that effort. In fact when you consider this field boasts only four other horses with raced form (all bad form mind you) and no serious newcomers, ARROW TO POST should start close to the minimum odds and just win. If there was to be a threat, I would imagine it comes from one of the first batch of Southern Hemisphere 2YO's with ZEUS THUNDER looking the best of that bunch. Trainer Theo Kieser had some luck with his 2YO's last season and while ZEUS THUNDER might not be in a horse like KAISER's league (although related), he is worth a look with just 47.5kg to carry and a trail win, albeit in just a fair time, under his belt. DR WU, the only 3YO newcomer in the field, looked solid enough at the trials to think he could go OK but a win would surprise on debut if ARROW TO POST runs near his best. The tote will be an excellent guide for the placings but only one horse that can win."

RACE 8: KRANJI STAKES C (SW) - 1000M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 16:30 PRIZE MONEY: S$75000
Larry says, "These Class 3 Poly sprints always seem to throw up a great field and today's 1000m dash is no exception. You could make a very strong case for the top five or so in the ratings with a couple of cameos expected from those down in the weights. FAST BREAK eventually got the winning nod given his exposed excellent Poly form coupled with some nice recent trials with blinkers added to his gear. He can race handy or back but from gate one I would expect Stephen Baster to hold a nice rails position either leading or one back and have plenty in hand when needed at the business end. But you could throw a blanket over the likes of ANDIKO, POPI POPI, LAGO BAY and WALLINGER when looking for his biggest danger and obviously so much will depend on that all important run into the first bend. Of the rest you may find value for exotics in LUCKYATSUCCESS or DANZIG ROCKET."

RACE 9: KRANJI STAKES C (SW) - 1800M COURSE E (LC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 17:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$75000
Larry says, "A tricky race with no real stand-out, a few horses hoping to improve and the likely fave, WASSAIC, first up over 1800m since a big win in November. And while WASSAIC looks the horse to be on form-wise, he might just find it tough late given the break and a horse like MY RACE - with a few more raced miles under his belt - could knock him off. In fact given MY RACE is coming off an ambitious (but solid) Group run, this race looks ideal and if young Rehaizat can get any sort of run from gate 8, his 3kg claim could see another win for the SAKURA SEEKING 5YO. Of the rest, I will be keeping a close eye on ILUMINADO for new trainer Steve Burridge and GORDON ROBERTS could be the bolter at odds - keep safe."

RACE 10: OPEN BENCHMARK 97 - 1100M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 17:30 PRIZE MONEY: S$95000
Larry says, "While only one or two 'Poly Specialists' will head to the starter in this inner track dash, the quality of this field makes this race a very interesting punting affair. And with the likes of WON'T STOP - gunning for his third win in a row - and the impressive MERCHANT likely to take up plenty of the punters attention, it might just be a good race for value from our top picks. FINDERSKEEPERS in particular looks to have found his feet in Singapore and can turn the tables on WON'T STOP from their meeting in early December. On that occasion WON'T STOP won well after working to lead early but he might not find it as easy today from a similar gate (7) with plenty of speed drawn inside him. FINDERSKEEPERS looks to have improved since that run and has drawn gate one suggesting Opie Bosson gets all the race favours and last crack at them. Obviously WON'T STOP and MERCHANT figure somewhere, but I will be keeping MR TIMELY very safe as he just needs an ounce of luck to turn some good runs into a win. He is fresh, drawn well in 4 and Stephen Baster is riding with confidence so the stars may just align for the STREET CRY 6YO today. Of the rest, the top weight, TUXEDO MOON, is resuming but with six Poly sprint wins to his name has to command respect with the Poly specialist, DICTATOR, also some hope if having a good day."

RACE 11: CLASS 4 - 1600M COURSE E (LC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 18:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "Anyone who witnessed CONTINENTAL FLYER's last run will be queuing up to back the TESTA ROSSA 3YO today. A quick glance at the stipe report - "held up from 600m-200m" - confirms what punters saw and the likely favourite can make very quick amends in what is a suitable race. He looks smart but is inexperienced, so Stephen Baster will have to be at his best with some solid Class 4 horses - BENJI'S EMPIRE and CHIEF SECRETARY to name two - keeping him the race more than honest. In fact BENJI'S EMPIRE - who has been plying his trade in the tough Class 3 scene - looks the biggest challenge for CONTINENTAL FLYER given he won his last two starts in this grade. He was placed four starts back behind FLAX and that recent form more than holds up in this company. As mentioned CHIEF SECRETARY is in the mix but will need the race to suit his swooping style with GUIDED LIGHT the value runner down in the weights."
