There are nine races on offer from Singapore on Friday night - all on the Short Course (A), Turf – and without wanting to sound like the proverbial broken record, Joao Moreira looks set for another handful.
As expected last Friday, the Brazilian Ace had a night out - but six wins and a couple of placings from nine rides was probably even better a result than even his biggest supporters had hoped for.
And while not as strong a book of rides on paper tonight, there are enough winning hopes to think another five or so wins could go on the Moreira 2012 ledger and continue - he rode four last Sunday - what has been an electrifying start to the shortest month of the year.
Interestingly, three of Joao’s winning hopes - MEL, RAFFLES PEGASUS and FIRTH - are making their Singapore debuts and all have looked good enough at the track to think a unique hat-trick is on the cards.
MEL (race 2) in particular looks well placed in Class 4 after two wins under his belt from five starts in New Zealand with RAFFLES PEGASUS (race 4) – a 2YO listed winner from Australia – also looks in suitable company for a first up win.
Unlike the others, FIRTH (or ‘Col’ as we like to call him), is making his race debut and is likely to be heavily supported in the Restricted Maiden (race 5) given his excellent trial win.
Moreira also has a very strong winning chance on the talented stayer, MICHAEL (race 7), with solid each-way hopes on all his other rides from ZAC GENERATION in the first to MARTEL in the last.
Best Bets; FIRTH (Race 5, win), MICHAEL (race 7, win) and HIGH FLY MARCO (race 3, each-way).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (1, 4, 5 and 6) race 7 (1, 2 and 4), race 8 (1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11) and race 9 (2, 8 and 10).

RACE 1: CLASS 5 (1) - 1600M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 18:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "Leticia Dragon looks to have a strong hand here with Moreira riding ZAC GENERATION- who will appreciate a return to turf - and the 3YO GOLDEN DOMINATOR who has been thereabouts in good Maiden company. Both will be in the market with obviously Moreira on board ZAC GENERATION suggests he goes off favourite. But a significant gear change on MY FIELD could see him knock in his second career win. The ALIGN 4YO has been in solid form of late with excuses last start and his form with headgear previously good enough to think he is ready to show his best here. The experienced KB Soo on-board could also be seen as a positive. Of the rest, TOP HAPPINESS won well on the Poly last start (albeit in just fair company) and whilst back in distance does have turf form and can be expected to run well. APRIL’S KNIGHT was spotted running on last start, he prefers turf and could be an improver while BOOKY BOY has a recent trial win to his name and both MONTE CRISTO and MESTI BOLEH should be included in exotics. RACE 2: CLASS 4 (2) - 1200M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 18:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "MEL has extremely good form in New Zealand, trialed well and has Moreira riding – he should go very well at his first Singapore start, even though he may prefer a slightly longer trip. A CUT ABOVE did not do much wrong at his first Singapore start and should be improved. In fact his run good enough to think he is right in what looks a race with no stand-out with the market a good guide to his chances. RAGING STORM is dropping in Class and two recent barriers trials should have freshened him up to run a big race over this suitable distance on his favourite surface. SPLITSVILLE will appreciate 1200m and turf, from the good barrier should be in it for a long way. CHARLY B keeps knocking on the door but just cannot find a way in, and LUCKY DIAMOND and SENAPATHY are handy horses resuming and worth some thought at value."

RACE 3: MAIDEN - 1600M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 19:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "An open maiden with numerous chances. HIGH FLY MARCO has run well at his three attempts on turf over this distance and with the claim for Zawari, has a strong chance. His work late last start suggests he is due and should have enough in hand to overcome the wide draw. FALLING has shown steady improvement and the mile looks like it will suit and with the claim for Jacky Low, looks well in here. DANCING PILLOWS showed plenty before being injured, and is resuming here after a couple of trials - should go well fresh. MORE THAN WORTHY raced well last start and with Moreira retaining the mount he should be competitive.but short in the betting. WAR CRUSADER was disappointing last start but with Opie Bosson taking over significant improvement can be expected. Go wide in exotics."

RACE 4: CLASS 4 (1) - 1200M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 19:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "Not a particularly strong Class 4 field and a race of many unknowns. BRUDDER is down in Class and on his best form would beat these easily. He has drawn awkwardly but with an experienced hoop and best work expected late, can win. ACE ARMANDO did all but win at his last start and has drawn the ace again, in what is a very similar race. He will also be suited on the A Course and whoever beats him, probably wins. RAFFLES PEGASUS has Moreira up, and won a good race as a 2YO in Australia, but his subsequent form was poor – he has trialled okay, but has to be taken on trust at his first start in Singapore. TZAR is a 3YO with ability, his last run in a strong Graduation was average, but he has been working well and improvement would not surprise. There will be plenty of speed in the race with YOYO, SHINKANSEN, OUR FRIENDLY DIVA, TZAR and ACE ARMANDO all likely to go quickly, and this could set it up for a swooper like RAVOUX and hopefully our top pick, BRUDDER."

RACE 5: RESTRICTED MAIDEN (2&3YO) (WFA) - 1200M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 20:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$65000
Larry says, "A number of first starters in this make it a tricky affair. However, while the Laurie Laxon-trained FIRTH is by Pentire and may like a longer trip, he showed enough on the track and by winning his Official trial to think he could bolt this in, particularly with Moreira aboard. BABY FACE has raced wide at each of his last two starts and battled on well. He looks the type to follow each way as he will win a race when not up against the likes of SPEEDY CAT (and perhaps FIRTH). Of the rest, PIED PIPER went well first up and has subsequently trialled nicely and worth keeping an eye on stable support with EXPECTATION looking a likely type and could show up without surprising. I will also be keeping BINGO safe at value - but will need luck for Shafiq from the wide gate - with CAPTAIN MANDOLIN and ROCKETY CAT must for exotics."

RACE 6: CLASS 5 (2) - 1600M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 20:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "One thing is for sure in this poor Class 5 mile. Although not winning on the turf and putting in a shocker on the grass two starts back, INCREDIBLE HULK will start favourite given his good last effort last start and the undeniable 'Moreira' factor. But the two-time winner looks a risk and happy to have a few in front of him in a race where it is tough to be confident. So much so I have a couple of horses that have not won in Singapore - TAKESHI and KUTI KUTI - on top which shows the lack of depth in this field more than anything else. But TAKESHI would have very much appreciated a tough first up run backed up by a good effort last time out and goes close with gate 4 a bonus. KUTI KUTI has also drawn well in gate 2 and has very solid form under his belt and must be some hope with Olivier Placais, who rode him to a close up fourth two starts ago, back on board. If we are to leave INCREDIBLE HULK out of our top four, there should be some value in SIMPLE MAN back on the turf and BEAUREGARD down in the weights. "

RACE 7: OPEN BENCHMARK 61 - 2000M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 21:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "While leaving out Moreira on the top-weight in the previous race seemed a smart thing to do at the time, the Brazilian Ace looks hard to beat on MICHAEL in the seventh. The horse looked a good thing beaten when flashing home for second last start behind SADDLERS CREEK and the step up to 2000m look ideal. Gate one is always a bonus and the TOWKAY 3YO does look an improver and a horse that might bob up in the Group 1 Guineas come May. But both jockey and horse will need to be on their respective games up against a couple of likely types in BEE AHEAD and TANGIBLE ASSETS. BEE AHEAD in particular looks a horse that has the turn of foot late that could see him come into Singapore Derby contention with a good campaign under his belt and will certainly be keeping things interesting late here. TANGIBLE ASSETS has only been unplaced once (with excuses) from seven starts and like BEE AHEAD and MICHAEL, should very much appreciate the 2000m journey and is right in this. While those three horses stand-out, the support cast is solid with ROCKY GARDEN, IRO OTOKO and BOY all worth a look in exotics."

RACE 8: CLASS 5 (4YO & BELOW) - 1400M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 21:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "While restricted to 4YO’s only, this Class 5 race looks very competitive with plenty of winning chances and lively tote action likely. And while I would love to include a couple of Class droppers in ICE AGE and VERSAILLES PALACE (and will probably have a saver on them at value), there are just too many others with their proverbial foots on the till. TOP THREE, ATLIXCO, REDDY TO RICK, ENZO, LUCKY STEED and ZAC COMMAND all have the form that has them winning a race like this and all will have supporters on the tote. Obviously those that showed the most last start - ATLIXCO, ENZO and TOP THREE - figure heavily in the selections but it will be a case of whoever gets the most favours in running wins. ATLIXCO got the final nod as the on-top selection based on the fact he looked handy with blinkers added last start but really, have a long look on the day, perhaps go with the undoubted value picks in ICE AGE and VERSAILLES PALACE or have some fun with exotics."

RACE 9: CLASS 4 - 1400M COURSE A (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 22:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "The 'lucky last' looks a super competitive race with plenty of horses coming into this with solid Class 4 form, some strong last start winners and even more importantly, a few with 'get on me next time' runs under their belt. And while you could look at this race from a few different form angles, I think AWAKENED - coming off an overdue Restricted Maiden win - is a horse with plenty of upside and happy to have the 3YO on top. The fact the horse he beat last start - TOTALITY with daylight third - went on to win handsomely at his next outing suggests that form will hold up in Class 4 and a win would not surprise. Of the rest I thought HIGGS BOSON did too much late last time out not to think he is in form and NATURAL NICE also did enough with excuses to think he can win. ARAPUNI, MARTEL, STREET RUFFIAN and AFFIRMATION are all solid Class 4 performers and well worth considering each way but hard to fit into top three selections."
