PREVIEW: SINGAPORE SUNDAY 19 FEBRUARY 2012

There are six races on the card from Singapore on Sunday with the Group 3 Three Rings Trophy (race 10) the highlight of the day.

But although the $200,000 classic has attracted a top field, the talented SUPER EASY looks a certainty at the conditions of the race and should win with the luxury weight of just 54kg.

The 3YO son of DARCI BRAHMA has taken all before him winning six from six since arriving in Singapore last year and trainer Michael Freedman looks to have found the perfect race to extend the streak to seven.

Obviously he is up against some nice types in WON’T STOP, DISTINCTION and RAFAGA, but with some analysts rating SUPER EASY the second best horse in Singapore behind the International Group winner, ROCKET MAN, he should win at the conditions and win easily.

And while the other races on the card are not in the same league as the Three Rings Trophy, there are some nice in-form horses to follow and last start winners CALIFORNIA STAR (race 9), PALOMBARO (race 11) and DYNASTY KNIGHT (race 12) can all win again.

It is a mixed surface meeting with races 7, 8, 9 and 11 on the all-weather Polytrack and races 10 and 12 on the Short Course (D), Turf.

Best Bets; CALIFORNIA STAR (Race 9, win), SUPER EASY (race 10, win) and RECYCLE TRIUMPH (race 8, long-shot).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 9 (5) race 10 (1), race 11 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 11) and race 12 (field).

RACE 7: BIG EASY 2005 HANDICAP OPEN BENCHMARK 74 - 1800M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 15:55 PRIZE MONEY: S$75000

Larry says, "Plenty of depth to this race and the fact I have left out two last start winners - QUINTA DE LAGO and BY LAW - out of my top couple of picks is testament to that. Both can win again but with so many others with their hoofs on the proverbial till, I think it's best to look elsewhere and EL PERIGO as good as chance as any. The STARCRAFT 4YO has only had 11 race starts and shown more than enough at his last couple to think he goes close today. Drawing the inside gate is a significant factor given he will race handy and could be hard to run down late. DEJAYAL hasn't drawn that well (gate nine) but looks set to run a big race in what is a very suitable affair. He won the last time he was over this type of distance on the Poly and with winkers upgraded to blinkers, could deliver the knock-out blow. Down in the weights it will pay to keep an eye on ITISWHATITIS - he is in super form and often value - with most others some hope."

1 41557 Dejayal     App R Shafiq-2 M Walker 9 69 59.0 10

2 16016 Maraeti     App Th Koh-3 L Laxon 13 68 58.5 30
Work to do early from wide gate and might struggle late.
3 *7251 Quinta De Lago     J Moreira L Laxon 5 66 57.5 3.20
Won too well last start not to think he goes very close here in similar affair.
4 33041 By Law     G Cheyne Rb Marsh 3 65 57.0 10
Last start winner who will give another good account of himself.
5 17352 My Race     A Munro D Koh 7 64 56.5 6.00
In solid form, often in better company than this of late, and goes close with senior rider a factor.
6 17554 Astra Torres     S Anandan-1 H Takaoka 12 61 55.0 50
Wide gate an issue but always value and always thereabouts.
7 49933 Lockdown     B Vorster P Shaw 6 61 55.0 5.00
Foot well and truly on the till and looks well placed here to knock in a win.
8 47*22 El Perigo     D Beasley C Brown 1 60 54.5 5.00
Another ready to win and every chance with gate one a definite advantage.
9 79110 Kobe Top Gun     O Bosson Rb Marsh 2 60 54.5 20
Never got involved last start after slow start from similar draw - play with care.
10 84205 Tsarevich     J Powell D Baertschiger 11 59 54.0 40
Didnt need wide gate but last start a lot better than it looks in the book - follow.
11 8746* Sky Lord     V Sivan L Khoo 8 53 51.0 20
Form better than it reads and must be considered with blinkers added to gear - watch for support.
12 34162 Itiswhatitis     I Santana Hk Tan 4 51 50.0 20
Plenty of excuses last start - some of them novel - and that placing good enough to win here at odds.
13 564*8 Bowie Knife E1   M Zaki-1 H Takaoka 10 45 50.0 50
Thereabouts as a rule in races like this but might be looking for easier company.

RACE 8: REALLY GOOD 2004 HANDICAP CLASS 5 (2) (CLAIMING RIDERS ONLY) - 1200M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 16:30 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000

Larry says, "Obviously in a 'Division 2' Class 5 race for claiming riders only it is hard to be confident but RAPID REWARDS and SPIDER KING look the two horses to be on. Both have drawn awkwardly but both showed last start they are in form and can win. I have RAPID REWARDS on top on the fact he raced well fresh at his last two starts and doesn't need to find much extra to win in this weak field. Likewise SPIDER KING doesn't need to find much and if he is within striking distance when needed, he goes mighty close. Both horses also appeal given that their main rivals on paper, CHAN'S ELECTRA and ZAC IMPERIAL, are usually disappointing with support and happy to leave them to others punters. The race may be a raffle so a ticket on RECYCLE TRIUMPH might be not a bad move at long odds given he had no hope last start and will certainly benefit from the outing. "

Better effort last start and appreciates gate two - value.
3 773*2 Rapid Rewards     App Sh Low-2 L Dragon 13 34 55.5 3.00
Fresh and in good enough form to overcome bad gate and be the one to beat.
4 *5653 Spider King     App R Zawari-3 B Dean 11 34 55.5 4.00
Huge run late last start and obviously a winning show on a repeat of that effort.
5 46637 Vitalico     App Cs Chin-4 M Walker 12 34 55.5 12
Shown enough on the odd occasion similar race of late to follow each way.

Just doesnt do enough for the support he gets so play with care.
7 360*7 Jewel Princess     S Anandan-1 J O'hara 4 33 55.0 20
Goes good enough to win a race like this but form has tapered off which is a concern.
8 986*9 Recycle Triumph     App Th Koh-3 Hk Tan 1 33 55.0 50
Did it very tough from wide gate last start so never a hope so look for marked improvement with that run under his belt from gate one.

Appreciates first up run but easier to ignore.

RACE 9: NINETYFIVE EMPEROR 2003 HANDICAP CLASS 4 (2) - 1000M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 17:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000

Larry says, "Trainer Bruce Marsh looks to have found a perfect race for CALIFORNIA STAR to continue the great start to his career and the exciting 3YO should win. His debut second behind the record equaling SPEEDY CAT had him in most 'black books' and his subsequent win (and obviously SPEEDY CATS form) suggests Class 4 is no issue and one to follow through the grades. The field is not overly strong, so he will be short in the betting but anything bar a win would be disappointing. Who runs second is the interesting question with a couple of relative newcomers to Singapore - HONEST TRUTH and ROYCE - having some say. Of the two, HONEST TRUTH showed more at his Kranji debut and is worth a look although it will pay to keep ROYCE very safe as he had no luck at his first run in Singapore where he did have some support. Of the rest it will also pay to keep an eye on KINGTRAP (at odds) in what looks a suitable race with obviously NATURALBORNFIGHTER thereabouts with no weight, a nice gate and Joao Moreira on-board."

1 5 Honest Truth     V Sivan T Kieser 8 61 57.5 8.00

2 0 Royce     App Th Koh-3 B Dean 11 60 57.0 10
Ignore debut where he did it tough with saddle slipping and improves with winkers upgraded to blinkers.
3 23626 That's Gold     App P Dellorto-4 M Yusof 10 57 55.5 8.00
Resuming but very consistent in thsi type of race and pay to keep safe.
4 2509* Bernanke     App M Firdaus-3 S Burridge 3 56 55.0 40
Form has tapered off since his debut placing and not sure what to expect.
5 21 Californian Star     O Bosson Rb Marsh 9 55 54.5 1.75
Backed up excellent debut behind SPEEDY CAT with an impressive win - wins again you would think.
6 60176 Best Bargain     S John S Chua 5 52 53.0 40
Needs to find a length or two but appreciates being back on winning surface.
7 00676 Kingtrap     G Cheyne D Hill 6 51 52.5 12
Form reads badly but appreciates fair gate and this race does look very suitable - keep safe.
8 88000 Tentenwin     I Santana Kc Yeoh 12 49 51.5 200
Struggles.
9 14816 Decouper     S Anandan-1 H Takaoka 7 49 51.5 40
Competitive last start in this company but should need Class 5 to be a winning threat.
10 71979 Qui Est La     S Baster D Kok 4 48 51.0 40
Should appreciate two runs back but exotics look best.
11 51589 So Perfect     M Zaki-1 M Yusof 1 47 50.5 40
Gate one always handy but Class 5 beckons and happy to wait.
12 37174 Naturalbornfighter     J Moreira M Clements 2 46 50.0 6.00
Showed last start he is more than competitive with light weight this company and a must for exotics from gate two.

RACE 10: THREE RINGS TROPHY GROUP 3 (3&4YO) (CW) (RIDER ALLOWANCES NOT PERMITTED) - 1400M COURSE D (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 17:30 PRIZE MONEY: S$200000

Larry says, "SUPER EASY could be the most aptly named horse - bar ROCKET MAN - in Singapore. The DARCI BRAHMA 3YO colt has cruised through the ranks winning relatively easily at six Singapore starts and with just 54kg today, that golden run should continue. The remarkable statistic from his Singapore career is that 54kg will equal the top weight he has carried (when he won on debut in Class 4) and his race record is testament to not only his ability but Michael Freedman's race selection. He should 'just win', but of course he will be at ridiculous odds and exotics do look the go. WON'T STOP, RAFAGA and DISTINCTION look the obvious choices for second and race tactics (who takes SUPER EASY on?) plays a part in the order. Forget the rest and 'go you good thing'."

2 43111 Won't Stop     O Chavez L Khoo 5 94 54.0 6.00
Very impressive win doing it tough last start and while the fave looks hard to beat, he has to be respected.
3 14004 Arowana Dot Com     A Munro D Koh 4 83 54.0 100
Last start better but still needs to show more before we consider in this company.
4 21131 Rafaga     I Santana Hk Tan 6 81 54.0 12
Smart, consistent and while this is a big test he should be in the mix.
5 32114 Grand Arrival     Kb Soo M Clements 2 74 54.0 100
Goes OK on his day but realistically a length from the mix.
6 53514 Video Call     I Saifudin J O'hara 3 62 52.0 200

8 12*11 Distinction     G Cheyne M Freedman 1 73 50.5 10
Smart enough 3YO who has claim's to run second.

RACE 11: SKY SHYSTER 2002 HANDICAP CLASS 3 - 1100M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 18:05 PRIZE MONEY: S$75000

Larry says, "A few of the top fancies ran into each other at their last start and the winner on that occasion, PALOMBARO, can win again after drawing well and not that badly penalised at the weights. He jumps from gate six at worst and when you consider SQUALL LINE, KAISER and POPI POPI have drawn gates 13, 11 and 10 respectively, he does have the upper hand. Add the fact the Bruce Marsh-trained 6YO is only up 2kg on what was an impressive enough win and with seven victories on this surface, he is easy to have on top. Obviously he has some nice types on his tail and not much between SQUALL LINE, KAISER and POPI POPI with perhaps the lightly raced WINONTOP the other to consider."

Not a million miles away from the winner last start and goes OK on his day this type of race.
11 117*1 Winontop     S Baster M Freedman 9 63 51.5 12
First up win a beauty given the tough run and record too good not to think he is competitive in this company.
12 *0831 Zafonic Star     G Cheyne P Shaw 7 62 51.0 30
Up in Class after dead-heating in Class 4 - place looks best here.

Competitive but wide gate would make this too tough if he got a run.

RACE 12: OUR ARISTOTLE 2001 HANDICAP CLASS 4 - 1400M COURSE D (SC) (TURF TRACK) TIME: 18:35 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000

Larry says, "I make no apologies for the fact we have made a winning case for 10 or of runners in this field. And I make no apologies for taking the relatively easy option of putting the last start winner, DYNASTY KNIGHT, on top. The race is tough, anyone can win, but DYNASTY KNIGHT won too well not to think he is in fine form and the claim certainly helps his cause today. And with so much depth and punters with short memories, he might just go off at each-way odds again which would be a bonus. I won't mention all the other strong hopes but it will pay to watch CAVORTING and THE CINDERELLA MAN who both wear blinkers for the first time and both might be value. Good luck."
