SINGAPORE TRACKNOTES - TUESDAY 15 MAY 2012

With all the overseas horses safely arrived at Kranji, a slightly higher level of activity was noticeable during the international time slot on the training tracks on Tuesday morning, but just like the day before, they were all restricted to slow work.

With the exception of Zazou and Secret Asset, who both landed late on Monday morning, all the overseas horses stepped out for an exercise routine ahead of their scheduled contest in the $3 million Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup over 2000m and the $1 million Group 1 KrisFlyer International Sprint over 1200m.

French SIA Cup raider Chinchon was again the only one who perked up the morning a little bit more when he quickened up the home straight, while the others were just kept ticking over ahead of their Sunday assignments.

The locals also had light-duty work put under their belt, with a couple of them like Perfect Pins taken out for a spin on the turf track while Captain Obvious was given a sounding out in a barrier trial.

SINGAPORE AIRLINES INTERNATIONAL CUP

California Memory (HK) - Tony Cruz

Cantered a lap-and-a-half on the Polytrack.

"I'm happy and I have a happy horse," said work rider and travelling foreman Cheng Ka Po.

"He's eating and drinking and his weight is good. I cannot be happier for now."

Chinchon (FRA) - Carlos Laffon-Parias

Cantered over Polytrack running last 600m in 44.4 secs and last 200m in 14.1 secs.

"Everything is going well. He is calm and working well," said track rider Jean-Luc Hanot.

"I would say he has settled in here better than in Hong Kong, as it was very cloudy and hot there. By nine o'clock it was already hot there while here, it's sill cool.

"He will work on turf tomorrow and will gallop faster."

City Style (UAE) - Mahmood Al Zarooni

Trotted one lap and then cantered one lap on the Polytrack.

City Style wasted little time in appearing on the track after only arriving in Singapore on Monday night.

"The flight was delayed but luckily we were able to stay in the stable back in Dubai before going to the airport," said travelling head-lad Andrea Mascolo.

"He had a nice flight out and ate and drank all the way and had a small feed when he was settled in last night.

"Mahmood said to take him out and give him some light exercise just to get his muscles moving after the flight.

"We'll see how he is in the morning and if his condition is all right we might step up his work a bit more."

Dream Peace (FRA) - Robert Collet

Cantered on Polytrack under track rider Cindy Huther.

"The trip was a bit long for her, but she's okay and has settled in well. We came all the way from Brussels and there was a 2-hour stopover in Dubai," said caretaker trainer Stephane Chevalier, a French trainer based in Dubai.

"But she's not at her first long-haul trip as she's travelled to Canada at the end of last year. She's quite a seasoned traveller.

"She worked very well in Chantilly before she came here. She will probably just work fast on the turf on Friday."

El Dorado (SIN) - Hideyuki Takaoka

Cantered over two laps on Polytrack.

"He is eight years old now and I don't think he can get any better than what he was already at," said trainer Hideyuki Takaoka.

"I'm happy enough with his condition. He will have a gallop on grass with Waikato tomorrow."

English Derby-winning jockey Alan Munro, who has yet to score on the triple Singapore Gold Cup winner, could not fault his SIA Cup ride's condition.

"Very happy with him. He did some pacework but I guess his gallop with Waikato on grass tomorrow will give us a better idea where he is at," said Munro.

Flax (SIN) - David Hill

A canter on Track No 6.

"He had a gallop last week and is right where I want him," said trainer David Hill.

"He's put on a little weight after losing it after his last start but he is going in a very fit horse.

"He's fit and feeling well and is going better than when he ran in the Derby last year.

"It's all going to come down to barriers and if he can get a good draw and a good run in the race then he should run well."

Flying Fulton (SIN) - Mark Walker

Swim.

"He just had a swim today. He will gallop on the grass with Joao (Moreira) tomorrow," said trainer Mark Walker.

Thumbs Up (HK) - Caspar Fownes

Two rounds of easy canter on the Polytrack.

"His condition is spot on," said travelling foreman Dale Bussey. "He hasn't left anything since he's been here and his weight is spot.

"If he stays like this then I'll be happy."

Bussey said after being in "isolation" last year with Green Birdie, he was enjoying being stabled with California Memory this time around.

"We've travelled with him (California Memory) before and he's such a relaxed horse," said Bussey. "I think Thumbs Up is certainly much happier being with him than if he was on his own."

Zaidan (HK) - John Moore

Trotted over 500m before cantering over 2400m on the Polytrack.

"We'll probably step it up a bit more tomorrow," said George Moore, son of trainer John. "He'll probably go over two laps as this track is a bit smaller than back in Hong Kong.

"He's ticking over well. He ate up last night and also during the day.

"He must be getting a bit bored though. He's been playing around with his manger. I made up a nice feed for him and he ate about half before playing around with it.

"I had to make up another feed for him so in all he probably ate about 120% last night.

"I'm happy with where he is at the moment."

Zazou (RUS) - Waldemar Hickst

Hand-walked around the sand ring.

"He will work tomorrow on the Polytrack. He rested today as he had a long flight from Brussels," said track rider Hennig Radion.

"He went back to Germany after his last race in Dubai. He's been kept fit since.

"But he is a very good traveller. No problem at all. He is eating and drinking very well too.

"Mr Hickst, the trainer and the jockey (Andreas) Suborics will be here on Friday. They will give you a better idea of the horse's condition then."

KRISFLYER INTERNATIONAL SPRINT

Ato (SIN) - Patrick Shaw

Cantered from the 1200m, speeding up over the last 600m on the Polytrack.

With stablemate Rocket Man restricted to a walk after working on the uphill track on Monday morning, Ato impressed Shaw with his workout.

"He worked like a train this morning," said Shaw. "It was a nice short sharp piece of work.

"He's going nicely and I've got no worries with him at all."

Captain Obvious (SIN) - Steven Burridge

Won a 1000m barrier trial under race jockey Oscar Chavez in 1min 00.8secs.

"We rode him from behind in the trial today to see how he would settle," said jockey Oscar Chavez.

"There is going to be plenty of pace in the race. He handled it well today and then finished it off strongly.

"Hopefully we will get a good barrier as he goes into the race in very good form."

Invincible Ash (IRE) - Michael Halford

Light canter on Polytrack.

"He did more or less the same work as yesterday - hack on the Polytrack, but he did go a little bit quicker," said track rider Damien Melia.

"He'll have a canter tomorrow. I haven't weighed him yet, but he looks in good shape."

Krypton Factor (BAH) - Fawzi Nass

Cantered on the turf track over a mile.

"It was just a slow canter on the grass over a mile. So far so good," said trainer Fawzi Nass.

"Tomorrow, he will have a hitout on Polytrack."

When asked about Krypton Factor's body weight, Nass said he is not a great believer of such an index in assessing his horses' condition.

"I don't weigh my horses. It's one more worry on my mind," said the Bahrain trainer.

"I let my eyes tell me how well the horse is."

Perfect Pins (SIN) - Leticia Dragon

Worked over 1000m on grass track - cantered and worked home the last 600m.

"I was very happy with his work. He travelled on the bit and looked very strong," said trainer Leticia Dragon.

"I think he's a stronger horse than last year. Last week's barrier trial and his last race have definitely brought him on."

Race-jockey Jose Verenzuela could not stop heaping praise on his KrisFlyer ride.

"I just let him take it easy this morning. He trotted and cantered over 1000m and worked home a little faster over the last 600m," said Verenzuela.

"He went very good and was nice and easy,"

Secret Asset (GB) - Jane Chapple-Hyam

Hand-walked around the sand ring.

"Elvis (stable name given because he has a "suspicious mind") had an easy day today, as he had just come out from such a long flight," said Chrissie Dawson, his groom.

"He left Heathrow and stopped over in Copenhagen and Sharjah, but he took it all in his stride. He's an absolute superstar.

"He drank a lot on the plane, which I was told is a good thing. He ate up all his feed when he got here, so he's back on an even keel now.

"The weather does not seem to bother him. He's a pretty cool character anyway.

"He will probably have a canter tomorrow. Jane (Chapple-Hyam) and the rider will be in tomorrow."

Yin Xin (SIN) - Theo Kieser

Walk and a swim.

"Like I said before, I do have some concerns about his feet. He just had an easy day today, but we'll play it by ear from now on," said trainer Theo Kieser.

"He will gallop tomorrow and I will then see how he pulls up after the gallop."
