It’s no secret Joao Moreira goes OK.
The likable Brazilian has been a sensation in Singapore since joining the local riding ranks in 2009 and the records seem to tumble every time he gets legged-up at Kranji.
Obviously his astonishing 206 winners in the 2012 season stands out as a record that may never be broken but with 87 wins already in 2013, the man they call ‘Magic’ might be the only man able to do just that.
And given his strike rate in that stellar year was 30.43%, Moreira looks on-course to challenge that mark as he heads to the ides of May with a winning percentage of 28.62%.
With a lazy eight winners last weekend - including finding a way to get connections of WONDER back on the champagne after some two and a half dry years - Moreira is in red-hot form and only a fool would bet against another multiple haul on Friday.
In the stand-alone meeting, Moreira has a full-book of rides and the trick for punters is to find which ones will add to his winning tally; a task not as simple as you would think.
At first glance, STREET LEGAL (race 8), SAND LANE (race 2), SIR FLEETWOOD (race 1) and last start winner, TIM (race 5) look his best winning rides with ROUGH DAY (race 3) and EATONS GOLD (race 7) solid each-way options.
A few winners would be a fair haul from that bunch of rides but a bonus win or two from the likes of AMERICAN VISION (race 6) and BIG STORM resuming in the lucky last would not surprise.
In particular, AMERICAN VISION - coming off a shocker - could be nice value and given he only needs a bit of Moreira magic and a sniff of his good Class 4 form to win a race like this, a good bet.
The champ’s other ride on Friday is REGAL SALUTE in race 3 but a win on the 3YO maiden would be like pulling a rabbit out of a hat.
Best Bets; STREET LEGAL (race 8, win), SOLITAIRE (race 7, each-way) and AMERICAN VISION (race 6, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (1, 2, 6, 9, 11 and 13), race 7 (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9), race 8 (1, 3, 5, 6, 10 and 13), race 9 (4, 5 and 13).

RACE 1: CLASS 5 (1) - 1100M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 18:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "A Class 5 over 1100 metres on the Polytrack starts the programme. Moreira takes the ride yet again on SIR FLEETWOOD for Laurie Laxon. He has ridden the horse 10 times overall including three times in Class 5 for two wins and a third; the 1100 metres may be a tad short but he trialed well recently and is certain to race well. John Powell is riding in great form and he takes the mount on SOLID WOOD whose last start second was full of merit and has been around the mark when ridden by a 4kg claimer at recent starts; whilst his best form is over longer he should be able to sit just off the speed and go close to winning. DANGER MONEY is not the most reliable conveyance but is suited in this grade with Barend Vorster taking the mount as his four wins have all come with a strong senior rider. Likewise, STRATA STAR is far from reliable and his effort on resumption was average; but with Manoel Nunes from a good draw he could surprise. BALTHAZAR is down in Class, he can put in a very powerful finish, Sam Subian knows him well and he should be running on late. SAHORO resumed from a long break and ran on strongly last start; Alan Munro takes over from Davy Bonilla and the horse should be further improved while MY SACRIFICE gets back on his preferred Polytrack surface. The very disappointing CARIBBEAN MOON drops in grade, from barrier 1 she should get a good run and could be charging home. POWER AND GLORY, DOUBLE CASH, BABY FACE and FOUNTAIN also have chances in a very open race. "

RACE 2: INITIATION (HORSES NOT WON A RACE IN 2YRS PRIOR TO NOMINATION DATE & NOT HAD > 8 STARTS IN SIN / MSIA) (WFA) (4-YO) - 1200M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 18:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$65000
Larry says, "An Initiation over 1200 metres and Moreira has stuck with the Cliff Brown trained SAND LANE who has not done much wrong at his only two starts though he could be vulnerable at the end of 1200 metres. BEVERLY HILL was beaten five lengths into second behind the very smart FIRSTTOTHELIGN put on debut for Sam Chua; he has drawn well and Sundaras John should give him a good trip. ALL MY WAY will find this easier than Novice Class, he has speed and a positive ride from Oscar Chavez will be required from the wide gate. GOD’S SPEED is having its first start for Laurie Laxon, with Danny Beasley up, he has trialed well and with the ace draw a solid debut is likely. Harry Kassim gets on UNICORN EXPRESS who should be improved by his initial outing, The stablemate CLUTHA LAD is having its first outing in Singapore after a 4th in NZ, and he is well bred by Thorn Park and has looked useful at the trials. The other first starter GREYSTOKE was placed at 1300 metres and 1600 metres at his only two starts in Australia and bears watching ; A’S VICTORIOUS and BRILLIANT DEAL have done enough to warrant consideration."

RACE 3: OPEN BENCHMARK 67 - 1600M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 19:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "An Open Benchmark 67 over a mile and GOLD RUTILE - who went down last start after a good maiden win - could easily bounce back for the Alan Munro-Hideyuki Takaoka combination; the mile looks suitable and the mare should be on the speed all the way. SUPER VICTORY ran 2nd in a similar event to this three starts back, he drops 4kg and has Barend Vorster steering from a good gate; he should be hard to beat. Moreira won on ROUGH DAY last start and he drops 2kg in what looks a similar field; he should be handy all the way and a win would definitely not surprise. WHITE COFFEE is a useful sort and gets Harry Kassim to ride, he is perfectly drawn and whilst the mile may test should get a perfect run. ULTIMATE WARRIOR was TARANKALI; he ran on strongly last start, is well drawn, has Oscar Chavez riding and is suited by the distance. MY FRIEND JO was just beaten last start, Matt Kellady takes over from Tengku Rehaizat and over the slightly shorter distance he should race well again; the stablemates WARSPIRIT and ENCOSTA DIABLO are also capable gallopers and could figure without surprising."

RACE 4: MAIDEN - 1200M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 19:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "A Maiden over 1200 metres and none of these have set the world on fire so far. If the first starter OH MONEY COME is any good at all from the ace draw he could be very hard to beat. He was placed in NZ and has trialed well enough to indicate a strong debut; market support a must. ROMA has been around the mark at recent outings and Alan Munro gets another chance to get a winner for Hideyuki Takaoka. STAR ACADEMY ran a place at cricket score odds at his last start and if Ivaldo Santana can get him to repeat she has a strong chance here. ZAC SUPREME resumed with a sound effort last start, he gets his chance in this field. ROCKETY CAT has been trying for a long time and has burnt punters on several occasions but this race may be weak enough for him. THRUST battles away and has Harry Kassim whilst Moreira gets on ROYAL SALUTE for Mark Walker, his form is ordinary but this is a very ordinary field."

RACE 5: CLASS 4 - 1000M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 20:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "A Class 4 over 1000 metres on the Polytrack; TIM got a perfect run last time and won easily for Moreira in a similar race; he is up in weight but is perfectly drawn again and should be hard to hold out. FERROBOND is resuming, he has been placed at all four runs on the Polytrack and is nicely drawn for Ivaldo Santana; he should be handy all the way and worth noting did win first up in Singapore. BLACK UNICORN is honest and showed enough last start in OK company to think he plays a part in this finish. FLAG OF COMMAND won well enough last start in easier company to follow. RAPID REWARDS is perfectly drawn in the ace and whilst Class 5 may be more suitable he has heaps of speed and with Alan Munro up should be in it for a long way. JET ACE disappointed last start but his previous form was consistent and Manoel Nunes rode him when he last won, he has plenty of toe and should be up near the lead. GOLDEN RABBIT is having his first Singapore start; he won twice in provincial company in Australia over 1000 metres and could show up. If the speedsters get the stitch MIGHTY CREATION will be he one running on late."

RACE 6: CLASS 5 (2) - 1100M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 20:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "Not a great deal of confidence given he is coming off a shocker but AMERICAN VISION gets the Moreira factor and that should be enough to win this. The 4YO showed he is versatile with some nice Class 4 placings over various distances and that form should have more than held up last start dropping to the lowest grade. A poor run over 1200m was very disappointing but with Moreira replacing the inexperienced Dellorto, he should show his best. LADY SHARK will keep him honest though. The mare had plenty of excuses last start and looks a big winning show on previous good form with gate one a bonus in this field. REDDY TO ROCK ran a cheeky race last week and he must be considered from a better gate with REDPACKETDAY the smokey first up after a spell with some nice trials under his belt. ZAC STAR DESTROYER and the emergency, GYPSY MAGIC, the other two to watch."

RACE 7: OPEN BENCHMARK 74 - 1200M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 21:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$75000
Larry says, "This race is a beauty with some very promising horses in SOLITAIRE, PIONEER SEVEN and EATONS GOLD facing a big test in a field with plenty of depth. The tote may give us a good indication on the day on the respective stables confidence but as it stands, SOLITAIRE looked a good thing beaten last start and experienced hoop John Powell will be very keen to make amends in this. The 4YO has a very impressive race record of three wins and eight placings from 12 career starts but given the trouble he got into last time out, the effort to finish a close up second to WHITE COFFEE was above and beyond and given luck in this race, he can win. Not much between PIONEER SEVEN and EATONS GOLD and expect support and big runs from both. Up in the weights and with value in mind, SHAOLIN SOLDIER might be a very good each-way option. The eight-time winner had plenty of excuses last start and while he will need every bit of his apprentices 3kg claim, he looks a very strong each-way option. ECLAIR FLYER also has a handy claim to help his winning chances and certainly in good enough for to be in the thick of this finish. LAMBORGHINI FLAME and COUNTRY CLUB another two to keep safe at value."

RACE 8: KRANJI STAKES D (SET WEIGHTS) - 1900M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 21:50 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000
Larry says, "STREET LEGAL was the proverbial good thing beaten last start and while he needs a result for followers, he should make amends in this. Sent out with good support over 1700m (Poly) on that occasion, he had excuses in the straight with young Zuriman riding so a switch to the red-hot Moreira is obviously a winning move. He will be short which is dangerous given the Class and his lack of winning form but it looks a case of whoever beats him wins. FAT BOY might be the one he has to run over late to win. The five-time winner is versatile and has looked ready to go on with the job and no reason it's not today. BEAUTIFUL WORLD is in very good form and obviously plays a part if any luck from an awkward draw with CHEVY also in the mix on some good work home last start. Of the three last start winners in the race - ALVITO, SEASONS WONDER and GOLDEN FRIENDS - probably ALVITO looks best suited here with Jose Verenzuela on-board. The emergency, ARABIAN KNIGHT, not the worst if he gets a start."

RACE 9: CLASS 4 - 1200M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 22:20 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000
Larry says, "An odd Class 4 to finish the night given there doesn't seem to be much depth or a stand-out and the emergency, BULLET FLY, might be a good thing if he gets a start. BULLET FLY had two wins to his name from three career starts before an extended break from racing. Any thoughts the 4YO would not return in as good as form as he left were quickly dismissed with a huge run with enough excuses to think he wins this with any luck in running. But he is the emergency and as it stands another progressive type in PURE TACTICS looks like he handles Class 4 and can win. It did take seven starts to break his maiden status but that win was strong enough to follow this company. Nothing else jumps off the page but SHINING GLORY is solid and looks a good each-way hope with John Powell a factor and Moreira on BIG STORM also comes under notice first up after a spell."
