Top Female Jockey Dies In Tragic Turn Of Events

In a tragic turn of events one of South New Zeeland's top female jockeys, Rebecca Black (aged 40) lost her life during the 8th race at a meeting in Gore.

Her mount Point Proven stumbled and fell, dislodging Black from the saddle in the process. Misscattlecreek who trailed Point Proven had nowhere to go when the latter came down and appeared to have landed on her. Terry Moseley who was aboard Misscattlecreek miraculously emerged without suffering any major injury, Rebecca Black however scrummed to the damage of the fall on the track. This race did not only claim the life of a human being, Misscattlecreek had to be euthanized shortly afterwards.

Black rode her first winner during the 1993/1994 season, taking part in a total of 1264 races scoring 108 wins. She is survived by her 3 children, two of which witnessed their mothers fall making this story all the more devastating.
