SOUTH African Link for Everest bound horse

In Her Time, has won a Group 2 race at Randwick Australia and looks to take one of the last remaining slots in the AUS 10 million dollar Everest race. The mare's stallion , Time Thief,  stands at Nadeson Park Stud in South Africa and is owned by Hassan Adams.

The half sister to South African Grade 1 winner LAISSERFAIRE, In Her Time won a nice race in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.

After Group 1 placings in the Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) and Tatts Tiara (1350m) last campaign, the daughter of Time Thief delivered trainer Ben Smith a career highlight with the slashing victory over Group 1 heavyweights English, Clearly Innocent and Chautauqua.

While he was quick to point out there are Group 1 options away from the $10 million Everest for In Her Time later in the spring, Smith said he would be happy to field calls from the two remaining slot holders, Coolmore and Damion Flower.

“My heart was in my mouth all the way up the straight,” Smith said.

“It’s great for the mare, she tries 100 percent all the time and she deserves a win like this in this quality.

“We will let the dust settle today and we’ll just see what happens. Nothing might happen and we might go to Melbourne or stay here.

“There is a big carrot to dangle $10 million, I’ll turn the phone on (for a slot).”

As he did in the Group 3 The Shorts (1100m) last start, Everest favourite Chautauqua spotted the leaders a big start at the top of the straight and reeled off an impressive final 200m sectional to finish sixth, three lengths adrift of In Her Time.

Jockey Brenton Avdulla was satisfied with the performance and believes the popular grey gelding remains on track to peak for the $10 million feature at Randwick on October 14.

“He’s still on target, his grand final is in two weeks,” Avdulla said.

“I reckon he would’ve run the same sectionals today as he did the other day.”
