The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at its Head Office on Friday, 24 August 2018, Trainer Mr St John Gray was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.4, in that he was the trainer of the horse HIGHLANDER, which ran in and won the 7th race at the Vaal Racecourse on 24 April 2018, after which a urine specimen taken from this horse, disclosed upon analysis, the presence of Procaine which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority.

Mr Gray pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty.

After hearing evidence in mitigation, the Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a fine of R23 000.

Furthermore, in terms of Rule 72.3.2, HIGHLANDER is disqualified from the race and the provisions of Rule 67.7.8 shall apply.
