Positive Specimen Found

INQUIRY : POSITIVE SPECIMEN : DANCING REBEL

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry was held at its Head Office on Friday 31 August 2018.  The Inquiry related to a plasma specimen taken from the horse DANCING REBEL (trained by Mr L J Erasmus), which ran in and won Race 2 at the Vaal Racecourse on 15 March 2018.  The specimen, upon analysis, disclosed the presence of Flunixin, a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of the NHA.  As Trainer L J Erasmus passed away on 10 June 2018, the Inquiry was limited to the issue of the disqualification of DANCING REBEL.

The Inquiry Board found that the positive specimen resulted in a contravention of Rule 73.2.4.  This meant that the horse had to be disqualified in terms of Rule 72.3.2.

The decision of the Inquiry Board was to disqualify DANCING REBEL in terms of Rule 72.3.2 from Race 2 run at the Vaal Racecourse on 15 March 2018 and that the stake monies be redistributed in accordance with Rule 67.7.8.
