Zackey in Nasty Vaal Fall

It was a interesting day at the Vaal yesterday for all things jockeys.

The first in order of the day was the return of Gavin Lerena to the saddle. The former champion was out injured and only had two rides for the day as he steps back into the arena without undue stress.

Unfortunately he didn't have any success with his well fancied first timer in race 1 letting supporters down with a green run and an awkward start that saw his chances done at the start. Ultra Boost finished 8 lengths off as second favourite. His second runner was a good runner up to the well backed former Cape Raider Dalai's Promise. Lerena commented post race that he wasn't blowing at the end ensuring punters that his fitness was almost up to scratch. Hard worj does pay off as the determined rider has done everything to ensure he returned ready.

The more upsetting scene of the day was that of Craig Zackey falling off his mount Serendipity in race 5 shortly after the start. On viewing replays it seemed as though his stirrup broke off and caused him to be fall in what could have been a nasty event.

"So had a bit of a tumble yesterday in Race 5, but thank God I'm okay and nothing broken. A few aches and bruises but ready to get back on thanks to everyone who's been messaging me to see my well being, appreciate it a lot God Bless!" he stated on his Facebook profile.
