Craig Eudey Quits

Craig Eudey, best known as the long time assistant to the Alistair Gordon yard, has called it a day as a trainer in his own right.

The Kzn based trainer has had limited success since talking out his licence and the likeable Eudey has been pressured by mounting unpaid bills and the difficulties of running a small yard. His best horse was the very talented Thandolwami, who ran in the 2009 July. Eudey was the heartbeat of the Gordon years during his time with that top class conditioner and has realized that the smaller yards are finding it more difficult to survive.

Eudey took to the media to comment on his exit, "The money owed to me, even as a small stable, was just too much and I had very little hope of retrieving it. I will still be around and will help in anyway I can, especially here for Gold Circle where I have many friends and they have been good to me. I know there are many trainers thinking of giving up. Something needs to be done for them. Racing will not survive well with just big owners and trainers IMHO.”

Eudey will hopeful not be lost to the industry but it is representation of state of the industry that many yards are considering the same action.
