Enable, the World's Best, makes History

The great Juddmonte Farms filly Enabled is one of eight horses who have won the famous Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

On Saturday, she became one of a kind.

Enable’s fabulous career now includes status as the only horse to win the Arc and the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) as she rolled to victory in the $4 million Longines Turf during the 35th edition of the World Championships at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

“The Queen of Juddmonte” was carried widest of all on the final turn but still managed to outduel Coolmore’s Magical by three-quarters-of-a-length to the wire in stretch battle between two European fillies.

Sadler’s Joy was nine lengths back in third, followed by Arklow and Waldgeist.

Eight times before an Arc winner came to the United States in search of victory at the World Championships, but seven of them went down to defeat in the BC Turf. An eighth, Sakhee, finished second by a nose on dirt in the 2001 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Belmont Park.

For Enable, who was ridden by Frankie Dettori, it was her 10th win in 11 career starts for Juddmonte and trainer John Gosden, but just her third start in 2018.

She had prevailed by a neck in last month’s Arc.

The 4-5 favorite paid $3.60 to win in the BC Turf.

“Maybe she’s getting better,” Gosden said.

Her last defeat came in her second career start, on April 21, 2017, when she was third by 2 ½ lengths in the EBF Stallions Conditions Stakes at Newbury in England.

It marked the second win of the day for Juddmonte, which captured the BC Mile (G1) earlier with Expert Eye.

It was Juddmonte’s seventh Breeders’ Cup win and the 14th for Dettori.
