Red Letter Day Capped by Tilbury Fort's Summer Cup

The GBets Summer Cup delivered a smashing outcome for the Sean Tarry yard as Tilbury Fort capped a day from the heavens for the former champion trainer.

The James Armitage bred gelding by Horse Chestnut shot clear in the final 100m and beat home a game and gusty Dawn Assult and favourite Cascapedia beaten into second and third respectively.

The run of the race must have come from the heavy weight Coral Fever who wasn't beaten far and also ran on under a cracking ride. There were numerous horses running on from the back as the likes of Takingthepeace and Secret Potion failed to fire after convincing recent wins.

The country's champion jockey who is also an apprentice, Lyle Hewitson, rode the winner to perfection in what can only be described as a dream year for the South African Jockey Academy pupil. He graduates from the school at the end of this month.

Hewitson quipped in a post race interview that he was scared of the reception he would get from the owners, such is the positive nature of people that are associated with this horse.

"Funnily enough I thought it was tough day and I would have been happy to have had two winners but as they started winning I got confident it would be good day. The owners deserve it," said Sean Tarry.

"I felt I couldn't give the horse a better prep. This is a horse than wants to run fresh. To all the guys who put their money down, well done," Tarry claimed.

Sean Tarry won five of the first seven races contested up to the Summer Cup.
