Vardy Trashes One World

Vardy proved he is a horse with a big future when easily getting the better of One World in the Grade 3 Winter Classic at Kenilworth on Saturday.

The two had fought out a close finish in the Winter Guineas a month ago, with One World coming out on top by a head.

He went off to lead in his customary way, with Herodotus and Vardy tracking his every move.

Coming into the short run in One World was still striding out purposefully, but Vardy was visibly cruising and quickly asserted to move into a clear lead.

One World had no answer and Vardy won unextended by two and a quarter.

“He’s still learning. I was happy to see the blinkers off today, and he felt like a different horse” said Craig Zackey.

Adam Marcus revealed that another equipment change had also played a part.

“We used an Italian bit which has never been used here before. I had to get it passed by the NHA.”

And it certainly did the trick.
