Yulong Prince, formerly known as Surcharge here in South Africa, has upset some more heavily-favoured horses to take out the Listed Furphy Plate at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.
In the third-last race of the day – the first after the Melbourne Cup itself – there was early drama as strong favourite Junipal appeared unsettled in the stalls. In the end, the $3.60 favourite failed to place.
Yulong Prince ended up crossing first in a tight finish, with Looks Like Elvis and So You Win – both heavily tipped to finish well – finishing second and third, respectively.
The win gave jockey Nash Rawiller and trainer Chris Waller their third victory respectively for the day.
