Joey Ramsden Quits Training

Joey Ramsden has announced that he closing down his stable at the end of the last day of business in November.

Ramsden's string has depleted considerably since the departure of Markus Jooste from the racing scene and most of his highest rated horses have left the stable.

Ramsden has done many things great and good things in racing including training the champion Variety Club but controversial moments haven't been far behind. One of the more unpopular moments was his antics at the Durban July draw earlier this year when he flung the draw card on live TV and in  front of the shocked audience at the popular Gateway Shopping mall in Durban.

It was all possibly too much to handle for the top Cape Trainer and no doubt his talents will be missed in National racing circles. The writing was on the wall when he declined the invitation to train in Singapore, news that came to light yesterday. His stables Top man and Assistant in Johannesburg also moved to the Mike De Kock barn last week.

Joey Ramsden thanks for the good times, you leave us with great memories. Colourful is the way to describe you, racing often needs characters like that; a dying breed.
