Hewitson Produces Cracking Ride in Derby Trial

Lyle Hewitson's Japanese stint came to an end but it ended on a high as he rode a treble on the day including the winner of the Japanese Derby Trial, Grade 2 on Authority.

Never looking like a winner when he was boxed in behind a wall of horses, the genius South African champion switched his mount out for run at a crucial stage and timed the move to perfection as he steadied his horse, then shot for home on the outside. He just made it home on the classy Authority who also looks a decent type in the making. The horse must be given credit for getting Hewitson out of a tight spot, the rider credited for the move instead of attempting limited gap opportunities on his original run.

Lyle rode two other winners and riding honors for the day where shared between him and the very popular Australian Damien Lane.
