Gambling Board CEO suspended

The Administrator of the Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB), Advocate Fana Nalane has placed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Steven Ngubeni, on precautionary suspension.

Adv. Nalane informed the CEO on Wednesday, 02 June 2021, that the precautionary suspension, with full pay, takes effect immediately.

“This is a precautionary suspension in terms of the Disciplinary Code and Procedures of the GGB.” said Adv. Nalane.

Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Parks Tau, appointed Adv. Nalane as the Administrator for the GGB in April this year. The MEC decided to appoint the Administrator after the former Board was unable to reach a quorum due to several resignations during the previous financial year.

The Administrator after due consideration has decided that it would be in the best interest of the CEO and the entity to proceed with the precautionary suspension of the CEO.

Mr. Thiran Marimuthu, the GGB’s Senior Manager for Gaming Control who has been the organization’s acting COO, has been appointed acting CEO in the interim.

Adv. Nalane would like to assure the public and all key stakeholders, including licensees, that the GGB under the leadership of the acting CEO will continue to effectively execute its mandate to regulate the gambling industry in the Gauteng province.
