Boss Back to Melbourne

Three-time Melbourne Cup winning rider Glen Boss will re-join the Melbourne riding ranks as of this weekend.

Boss was one of a handful of Sydney jockeys given permission last week to travel to Melbourne for the Spring Racing Carnival, but in contrast to the likes of James McDonald and Hugh Bowman, this isn’t a hit and run mission for the renowned big race rider.

“I’m actually coming back to Melbourne to live,” Boss announced.

Family is at the forefront of Boss’ decision for him and his wife Sloane to return to Melbourne, as their children, Tayte and Carter, are both based in Victoria.

“I’ve been in Sydney for the last two- and a-bit years, Sloane was just desperate to get home and be with the kids around,” he explained.

“They’re not kids, they’re young adults, but when you’re not around them all the time, it’s really difficult.

“A big part of my decision coming home is to spend more time with them and be a bit more proactive around them.”

Boss returned to riding in Australia full time in 2019 after spending three years in Singapore, and has won 23 feature races since then, including eight group ones, as well as The Everest on Yes Yes Yes and The Golden Eagle on Kolding.

Now, Boss will be hoping to achieve that level of success as a Melbourne based jockey.

“It’s not going to be easy; I’ve got a lot of hard work in front of me, but I’m prepared,” he said.
