Global Drummer hits high notes

The four-year-old Global View gelding Global Drummer was at his very best at the Fairview Polytrack on Friday afternoon. He was too good for the opposition and won the Betontab.co.za November Stakes (Non-Black Type) over 1400m in fine style. Global Drummer hit the front early as usual and fought off the challengers in another classy victory.

S’manga Khumalo, not Global Drummer’s regular jockey, was in the saddle this time and was highly impressed by the performance of the Gavin Smith-trained champion. “He is a magnificent horse. When the gates opened he took a little bit of time to get going but I just left him to do the job,” Khumalo explained. Global Drummer, bred by Ascot Stud, has now won 12 races from 16 starts for his owner Vicky Veeramootoo.

Marmara Sea ran on strongly for the second spot,
with Aqua Delta also running a fine race for third
place.

Gavin Smith Racing Stables had a brilliant day with three
winners. Champion trainer Halo Stables - Alan Greeff Racing saddled two winners and Sharon Kotzen, Hekkie Strydom and Kom Naidoo Racing had a winner each.
