Jalybane is Chair of New Grooms Association

In somewhat of a historic occasion, the grooms in KZN along with the KZN Trainer’s Association and Gold Circle signed off on the formation of the KZN Grooms Association.

Ernest Jalybane was elected as the chairman and together with his committee from both Summerveld and Ashburton they signed off on their Constitution. He thanked all involved in its formation and he and his committee look forward in liaising with the horse racing industry as a whole to further the involvement and development of the grooms in the industry.

The initiative was driven by Tony Rivalland and backed by Gold Circle Director Manfred Rohwer and trainer Louis Goosen.

The Association will administer a pension fund on behalf of the grooms along with a funeral policy with a 50/50 contribution by grooms and their employers to the respective funds.

Paul Lafferty of the Trainers Association said it was a wonderful day and a great initiative for some of the hardest workers in the sport and Goosen said he was proud to race in KZN.
